Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a tax break package worth almost $1.3 billion, which includes two sales-tax “holiday” periods.
The bill, unanimously passed by Florida lawmakers, introduces tax holidays, reduces commercial-lease tax, and grants permanent sales-tax exemptions for items like diapers, incontinence products, and baby/toddler items. While not holding a public event, DeSantis issued a statement emphasizing the aim to pass on economic success to the people and support stronger families in Florida.
The disaster-preparedness holiday, starting Saturday and lasting until June 9, will exempt sales taxes on storm supplies and household goods. The “Freedom Summer” tax breaks, beginning on Monday and running until September 4, will allow shoppers to avoid paying sales taxes on various items such as movie tickets, sporting events, state park entry, and athletic equipment. This robust package aims to generate retail activity and offer savings to consumers in Florida.
